Advanced Institute for Medical Sciences of Dalian Medical University

Advanced Institute for Medical Sciences (AIMS) is a research institute affiliated with Dalian Medical University. AIMS supports research at the interface between basic and clinical research, focusing on translational medicine and therapeutics in circulatory physiology, metabolic physiology, and pathophysiology. AIMS aims to translate scientific discoveries into innovative methods to prevent, diagnose, treat, and ultimately cure various metabolic diseases. We will recruit world-wide investigators in the field of chronic metabolic diseases, such as cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, renal and neurodegenerative diseases. By establishing open, cooperative, multi-disciplinary teams using resources from the institute, university, and general scientific community, AIMS helps to cluster and foster the work of many excellent young investigators and academic leaders, and eventually promote and facilitate the long-term goal of Dalian Medical University to rank among the nation’s top medical schools with international repute.
Dr. Youfei Guan, vice dean of Dalian Medical University, is the director of the AIMS.He is a distinguished professor of Cheung Kong Scholar programs, and was awarded with National Science Fund for distinguished young scholar, chief scientist of a “973” project of Ministry of Science and Technology, and China’s National Talent Plan. We have invited Prof. Gustafsson, a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, and former president of Nobel Prize Committee, to preside the academic advisory committee. Several outstanding scholars and young investigators in the fields of metabolism, nephrology, and cardiovascular disorders have also been recruited to serve as the primary investigators. AIMS encourages the integration of medical education, discipline construction and scientific research, and plans to establish diverse research cores and centers in succession. These include an Institute of Medical Physiology, as well as the Centers for Translational Research in Metabolic Diseases, Cardiovascular, Renal and Neurological diseases.

In the long run, AIMS will create a culture within Dalian Medical University where education, research and patient care within the broad field of metabolic disease are seamlessly integrated. Our mission is to maintain and improve the health of human beings through development of high quality scientific research.
