1. The College of Stomatology
The College and Hospital of Stomatology, Dalian Medical University is a key teaching base and specialized hospital engaging in teaching, research and medical treatment, which is directly administrated by Department of Education of Liaoning Province. It is aimed to foster high-rank talents in the field of dentistry with all-round development and proficiency in practical skills and to popularize and improve the level of prevention and treament for odontopathy and oral-maxillofacial disease.
The College of Stomatology includes two secondary subjects, dental basic science and clinical science, with dental basic science as the key discipline of Liaoning Province.
Five basic projects and four clinical projects are the main research discipline: molecular biology mechanism study of maxillofacial tumor; the mechanism of maxillofacial deformity; etiology and mechanism of pulpal and periapical diseases; the foundation research of new technology in orthodontics and the foundation research in oral implantology as well as diagnosis, treatment and prevention of maxillofacial tumor; the treatment and prevention of maxillofacial deformity; the treatment and prevention of pulpal and periapical diseases and implant denture and the application of implant in modern orthodontic. The key laboratory has been established as an excellent scientific research basement including the molecular biology laboratory, the ultra clean cell culture chamber and the immunohistochemical staining room.
The College of Stomatology has established cooperative relationships with Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Showa University, Okayama University and Chonnam National University, respectively. Over 60 well-known domestic and foreign experts have been visited to the college. The faculty has participated in more than 100 academic meetings.
In the past ten years, totally 48 projects, including 8 “National Natural Science Foundation Project”, 6 “the Scientific Research Foundation for the Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars, State Education Ministry”, 5 “Liaoning province Science and Technology Foundation”, 15 “Liaoning Province Department of Education Fund”, 9 “Dalian Science and Technology Foundation” and 3 international cooperation projects have been conducted in the college. The College of Stomatology has got nearly ten national, provincial and city awards including 3 “Liaoning provincial Science and Technology Progress Prize”.
2. Dentistry
Dentistry in Dalian Medical University is the model major in Liaoning province. It was established in 1960. The full-time education (5-year undergraduate) has enrolled students since 1985. Currently, the dental basic science is a provincial-level key discipline. The college has master's degree awarded in both dental basic and clinical science. The College of Stomatology has outstanding staffs. Ten of them got their degree overseas. The college owns first-rate teaching instrument, like dental teaching access system and simulation mould. Three large-scale multimedia laboratories have been built. After 5 years’ study, the undergraduate is supposed to be advanced applicative talents devoted to dental medical treatment, health care,teaching and research with high level of theoretical and practical skills. Recently, 40% of. undergraduates are enrolled as graduate students, and employment rate reaches 100%.
